This 5 day stretch is the perfect time for a getaway trip to this amazing sunny, dry, balmy mid 70’s Palm Springs resort area. Join the fair’s welcome celebration on Feb. 15, hosted by the venerable Palm Springs International Film Festival, as well as the Friday night opening of Palm Springs Modernism Week.
The fair’s spectacular Opening Night Preview (benefiting the Palm Springs Art Museum) is Thursday, February 14, from 6-9pm. What an ideal opportunity to bring your loved one to the fair to kick-off the long holiday and fair’s activities. Let’s just say, it’s your SweetheART night out. St. Valentines Day then rolls into the popular 4-day, Friday-Monday, Presidents Day weekend, Feb. 15-18 (formerly Washington’s Birthday – Presidents Day is the third Monday in Feb). Many schools and colleges are closed for the entire week between Lincoln’s birthday and Washington’s, known as the “mid-winter recess”. All government offices are closed as well as many private and public businesses on Monday, Feb. 18, Presidents Day.

The upscale neighborhood surrounding the Palm Springs Convention Center has come to be known as the “Palm Springs Movie Colony.” While the area has been an attraction for talent from movie, television and recording studios, part of the attraction was usually relaxation in the seclusion of this quiet desert oasis. This year, Hollywood icons were very much the center of attention and a center of discussion at the Palm Springs Fine Art Fair. The topic is popular, but many aspects puzzle collectors rather than fascinate them.
