Sergott Contemporary inaugurates 2016 with an exhibition exploring spirituality and connectivity in art. Nine artists from eight different countries take a global look at concepts of universal existence, the ephemeral, nostalgia, spiritual transcendence, and ancestry. Each artist performs an act of self-understanding and healing that leads to a sense of balance and peacefulness within their work.
Inspired in Madhaven Palanisamy’s series titled Our Souls Are Made of Stardust, the exhibition utilizes a Carl Sagan quote as a point of departure: “We are a way for the universe to know itself. Some part of our being knows this is where we came from. We long to return. And we can, because the cosmos is also within us. We’re made of star stuff.” This quote is the essential understanding of our universal existence and our connection to our surroundings – a symbiosis of the physical and meta-physical worlds.
The presentation involves a variety of media from painting, photography, installation, embroidery, video, and sculpture.
